Working as a Team
Eighteen young people ( 14-15 years old) from Ysgol y Cymer and Ysgol Rhydywaun took part in a day of team building activities at Canolfan Daerwynno, Llanwynno. The day was organised by Menter Iaith and forms a part of the youngsters' OCN qualification in the communications short course.
Youth & The Lottery !
We have pleasure in announcing that the youth section of Menter Iaith has succeeded in securing a National Lottery grant to contribute towards a dedicated youth worker and to pay for activities for the young people of Rhondda Cynon Taf which contribute towards their personal development and their use of the Welsh language. The grant, for the sum of £78,763 over three years should go a long way to giving the county’s young people be they Welsh speaking or learning Welsh, the chance to enjoy a variety of different experiences. Climbing in Welsh
The Cic crew from Menter Iaith organised a trip to the Bedlinog Climbing Centre for members of the Hawthorm Comprehensive School Welsh Club on 26 April 2008.
Thanks to Communities First
Here are members of the Cymer Welsh Language Youth Club enjoying a game on the new Nintendo Wii which was bought thanks to a grant from Communities First.
The Cymer Youth Club meets every Wednesday evening during school term betwen 7:00 - 9:00. There is a warm welcome for new members to join. For further information contact Leonie at the CiC office 01685 882299
CIC Beginning Of Term Disco
On Friday, September 12th, pupils at Ysgol Rhydywaun and Gartholwg enjoyed themselves at CIC's beginning of term disco. It was held at Theatr Gartholwg with DJ Aled Wyn on the decks. Congratulations to the year 7 girls at Rhydywaun who came second in the Karaoke competition and further congratulations to Elouise, who came first !! Rock on !!!
A fideo about Boadicea
Members of the Menter Iaith CiC Youth Club at Ysgol y Cymer are working hard on the second film project - Boadicea - part of a First Light Movies project. Ysgol y Cymer, CiC and Tantrwm are working in partnership to create the video.
The third film in the series will be produced during the summer school holidays. The schools whichare part of the project are all in Communities First areas.
Fun at Popty
Members of the lunchtime Welsh language clubs at Aberdare Girls and St John the Baptist Comprehensive Schools went as part of the audience to a recording of the S4C show ‘Popty’ on Thursday afternoon 24 April.
Cymer School Film Pproject
‘FIRST LIGHT’ flm project with Year 10 pupils from Ysgol Gyfun y Cymer.
On the 17th March a group of pupils had the honour of filming in the National Museum in Cardiff. The film is part of a project supported by ‘FIRST LIGHT MOVIES’ with support from the Youth Section of Menter Iaith (CIC) and the local television company, Tantrwm.
